Return to Monkey Island Confirmed for Nintendo Switch & PC With a New Trailer

Ron Gilbert is back with Return to Monkey Island to finish the Guybrush Threepwood saga, and here you can learn more about the game, thanks to a new trailer shared during the latest Nintendo Direct Mini.

It was only a few months ago that Devolver Digital surprised us by announcing a brand new entry to the Monkey Island series, a game that will be directed by Ron Gilbert, the man who created the first two installments of the series back in 1990.

Return to Monkey Island was first revealed as an upcoming game for 2022, without any specific mentions of the target platforms. However, the developers shared a brand new gameplay trailer from the game today during the Nintendo Direct Mini.

In addition to revealing more about the storyline and characters of Return to Monkey Island, the new trailer also confirms the game for Nintendo Switch and PC, still targeting a 2022 release date.

It’s yet to be seen whether Return to Monkey Island would be available for other consoles, but the narrator of Nintendo Direct Mini mentioned that the game launches first for consoles on Nintendo Switch, which could imply that a release for other consoles might be in the works.

Following the story of Guybrush Threepwood, the point & click adventure returns again with another twisted story, where you will find the old characters in new situations fighting for new attitudes. You will return to the same universe trying to solve multiple puzzles, fight against LeChuck and the army of Zombie pirates, and maybe discover the secret behind the Monkey Island.

In the new entry of Monkey Island, you will visit Melee Island once again, but under new management, it no longer looks like the old island you used to see before. Also, you are going to meet Elaine again, but seemingly, she has changed a lot.

Although Return to Monkey Island still targets a 2022 release window, you cannot pre-purchase the game on PC or Switch just yet, which means we are still unaware of the game’s retail price. However, you can add the game to your Wishlist on Steam and Nintendo Store.
