Veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan heaped praise on Rohit Sharma, saying that he shares a healthy bond with the Indian all-format skipper. The duo have shared plenty of useful partnerships for the Men in Blue, mostly in limited-overs cricket.

Recently, they also completed 5000 runs together as a pair in the 50-over format of international cricket. The pair is seventh in the list of runs scored in partnerships, having notched 5170 runs from 116 matches at an average of 45.35 with as many as 18 hundred plus stands.

If they score 37 runs together, they will cross the iconic West Indies pair of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes. Dhawan, who captained in India’s recent ODI series against the Caribbean team, praised Rohit for being an excellent opening partner.

“It is a big milestone in both our careers and, 9 years on, we have a very strong bond and friendship. We have played together for so many years that we have come to understand each other’s game and we are always looking to support each other in the nets or on the pitch. Rohit has been a fantastic opening partner and to have a milestone that I share with Rohit is a happy feeling,” Dhawan was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).

Dhawan is currently getting ready to take part in the ODI series against Zimbabwe. When the BCCI announced the 15-member squad, Dhawan was named as the skipper. However, on Thursday, August 11, he was reappointed as the vice-captain with KL Rahul being the skipper.

Rahul made his way back into the Indian team after almost six months following his recovery from sports hernia surgery.
