Rohit Sharma returns to lead in ODIs, T20Is vs West Indies, Jasprit Bumrah and Shami rested
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday, January 26 announced the Indian squads for the ODI and the T20I series against the West Indies at home. India will play 3 ODIs from February 6 in Ahmedabad and as many T20Is in Kolkata from February 16.
Rohit Sharma, who missed India’s tour of South Africa due to a hamstring injury, returns to lead the ODI squad and the T20I squad. Former captain Virat Kohli is part of both the ODI and T20I squads for the West Indies series.
Vice-captain KL Rahul will be available from only the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series, starting February 6 in Ahmedabad, the BCCI said.
Rohit cleared the mandatory fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru following which he attended the selection meeting with the senior selection committee.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested from both the series while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav returns to the ODI squad.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami have been rested from the series.
KL Rahul will be available from 2nd ODI onwards.
R Jadeja is undergoing his final stage of recovery post his knee injury and will not be available for the ODIs and T20Is.

Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been dropped from the ODI squad after an underwhelming performance in the 3-match in South Africa earlier this month. Senior spinner R Ashwin is reportedly unavailable for the West Indies series due to injury concerns.

Ravi Bishnoi, who played for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, gets a maiden T20I call-up. Bishnoi was picked by Lucknow Super Giants, the new franchise owned by the RSPG Group, for IPL 2022.
Young pacers Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan are part of both the squads along with Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj.
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel returns to the T20I squad after missing the South Africa tour due to an injury.

Rohit was appointed as India’s ODI captain in December last year after Virat Kohli was sacked from the role but the skipper was not able to travel to South Africa due to the injury. Rohit was appointed as India’s T20I captain after the T20 World Cup following which Kohli quit from the top job.
In Rohit’s absence, India were led by KL Rahul in South Africa but the star batter’s captaincy came under the scanner as India lost the ODI series 0-3. Rahul continues to be the vice-captain of the ODI and the T20I side for the West Indies series.
