Samsung Galaxy S22 series will reportedly ship with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in India | Digit

Samsung Galaxy flagships for the Indian market, amongst many others would get the Exynos treatment while Snapdragon was mostly exclusive to the US and China. It looks like that’s about to change.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 instead of Exynos 2200, says a new report. Well, this isn’t exactly new as we had already reported something like this before. Anyways, this new bit of information comes from the oft-accurate Ishan Agarwal through Pricebaba.com. And this might surprise those who know that historically, the opposite was the case. As in the Galaxy flagships for the Indian market, amongst many others would get the Exynos treatment while Snapdragon was mostly exclusive to the US and China. Now even though we haven’t come across any other report verifying this, we may get some hint at the Galaxy S22 lineup launch event scheduled for Feb 9, 2022at 8:30 pm IST.

Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 vs Exynos 2200

Samsung Galaxy S22 Indian edition may launch with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1: Report

Both Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 have the ARM’s 4nm manufacturing process-based v9-A architecture including a tri-cluster setup with a Cortex X2, three Cortex A710, and four Cortex A510. Now we know that the prime core on the Snapdragon chip is clocked at 3.0GHz, whereas Samsung is yet to reveal the max clock speed of its chip.

On the graphics front, the Snapdragon employs its proprietary Adreno 730 chip running at 818MHz. However, it is Samsung that’s bringing the fruits of its collaboration with AMD in the form of Xclipse 920 GPU (based on the RDNA2 architecture) clocked at 1300MHz.

As for memory configuration, both Qualcomm and Samsung have offered support for LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 storage. Other components are also mostly comparable like the supported multimedia and connectivity features with Samsung having some lead in the claimed download and upload speeds.

However, all that said and done, the key concern the Samsung Galaxy S22-series’ buyers will be having is with respect to how sustained and cool the performance would be between the Exynos and Snapdragon variants. In the past many years, Exynos had been lagging behind its arch-rival. Folks who are investing in a premium handset would want the best of performance in all aspects, be it for digital drudgery, camera output, or gaming. Over the years, the Qualcomm chipset is known to drive better-optimized gameplay. However, things might see a change with this new AMD-backed Exynos. We’ll know for sure once the benchmarks and gaming reviews of the two variants are out. So let’s reserve our judgments until then.
