Samsung’s Galaxy Note series has been hailed as one of the best Android phones out there, and its demise was one of the sad events in the industry. But, people got over their favourite Note and jumped ship with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is more of a flag bearer of the Galaxy Note series rather than a member of the Galaxy S series.
Samsung is on track to sell 10.9 million units of Galaxy S22 Ultra this year
We are not saying that, but the numbers are; according to notable tipster IceUniverse, Samsung is expecting to sell 10.9 million units of Galaxy S22 Ultra this year. It is the most popular Android smartphone launched this year, according to Counterpoint. However, it has only been a few months since the Galaxy S22 Ultra was launched, and things can change until it gets a year old. If the Galaxy S22 Ultra manages to reach the projected sales, it would beat the last four generations of Galaxy Note smartphones in terms of sales in its first year.
For context, Samsung sold 10.3 units of Galaxy Note 8 in its first year. While the Galaxy Note 9 registered annual sales of 9.6 million units, things started to go downhill. The Galaxy Note 9 series clocked in 9.5 million units, while the 7.5 million units of the Galaxy Note 20 series were sold in the first year. Well, with a projected sales of 10.9 million units, the Galaxy S22 Ultra might reach Galaxy Note’s prime sighing relief to Samsung.
Samsung replaces Galaxy Note with Galaxy S Ultra
It is clear that the reason behind Galaxy Note’s discontinuation was poor sales, and Samsung had too many flagship series co-existing and fighting for the numbers. The death of the Note series was a long time coming, with sales decreasing yearly. It only became evident when Samsung introduced S Pen support on Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 3 months before Samsung halted production of the Galaxy Note 20 series.
The Galaxy Note series is dead, but it is still living on as the top-tier member of the Galaxy S series, having a big screen, great cameras and S-Pen support. And the upcoming Galaxy S Ultra will be the Note replacement from now on. So, the Note lives on forever.
But why Samsung is projecting such high estimates for the Galaxy S22 Ultra? The reason is simple; people found a replacement for their beloved Note. The Galaxy S22 Ultra adopted the Note’s design language and came with an in-built silo for the S Pen, one of the main USPs of Galaxy Note smartphones. And the increased demand for such a phone after a long gap helped boost the sales of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
