Samsung to give three years of software support to existing Galaxy Watches – Times of India

NEW DELHI: It appears that Google and Samsung are planning to take on Apple Watch. The company’s annual developer conference Google announced that it is merging its Wear OS and Samsung’s Tizen OS.
The new version of Google’s wearable software dubbed Wear is expected to roll out on existing smartwatches manufactured by various companies like Mobvoi, Fossil and others.
However, this is not the case with Tizen-powered smart watches. So, what will happen to Samsung smartwatches that run on Tizen OS?
The consumer electronics giant has now confirmed that it will offer software support and update to the present Galaxy Watch owners. In an official blog post, Samsung announced that it will offer at least three years of support to its Tizen-based Galaxy smartwatches.
This three year timeline will start from the time of the product launch. For instance, Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 was launched last year so it will get software updates till August 2023.
“At Samsung, we always put customers at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we are committed to bringing them the best possible smartwatch experiences. For customers who already own the Tizen OS based Galaxy smartwatches, we are continuing to provide at least three years of software support after the product launch,” company said in an official blog post.
The new wearable software Wear is powered by Android and Google has not yet confirmed the update timelines for smartwatches. On the other hand, Samsung has also not confirmed its plans to completely do away with the Tizen OS.
Going forward, Wear and Tizen OS will be a single, unified platform. “By working together we have been able to take strengths of each and combine them into an experience that has faster performance, longer battery life and more of the apps you love available for the watch,” Google said in the blog post.
