“I thought that becoming a pilot was an unachievable dream—and yet I dreamed.” Julian A. “Twenty years after I first landed with my family in LaGuardia airport, I was doing it again at the controls of an Airbus 320.” Julian A.

Julian was born in Bogota, Colombia, in the late 80s. He remembers playing in the backyard and being fascinated by the airplanes that flew over our house: Lufthansa, KLM, and Avianca airplanes were landing at El Dorado International Airport- Bogota from all over the world. I thought that becoming a pilot was an unachievable dream—and yet I dreamed.

In the late 1990s, his father was diagnosed with throat cancer. they flew to New York for the first time. During the flight, he stared out from the window seat on the left side of the airplane. Listening to the ATC, though he had no clue what they were saying because Julian didn’t speak English. He remembers trying to guess what was happening every time the airplane made a noise, watching the wings for any motion at all. And I remember wondering if the pilots knew where we were going. Everywhere he looked saw water.

In his senior year of high school, he finally took some flying lessons through a vocational course. Since landing at LaGuardia in New York City, it had been clear that he wanted to become a pilot. After that first taste of flying in high school, he began to build the necessary skills one step at a time. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy.

During his military service, Julian began flight training on his time off. He had completed all of my pilot certificates, and was on his way to building the experience needed to become an airline pilot by the time he was honorably discharged.

In early 2012, Julian obtained my first Jet Type Rating. Followed up with multiple type ratings in different jet airplanes. Since then, he has been flying as a First Officer, upgraded to Captain on several Jet airplanes.

Twenty years after he first landed with my family in LaGuardia airport, he was doing it again at the controls of an Airbus 320.

In late 2019, he began flying a Boeing 777s all over the world for a major US passenger carrier.

As he progressed in his career as an airline pilot, he founded Simtech Aviation in NYC to share real-world knowledge with future generations who are passionate about aviation. Providing Flight Training in NYC using a Flight Simulator

Because Julian has achieved my dream of becoming an airline pilot, he takes great pride and joy from working with kids interested in aviation, whose eyes light up when they talk about airplanes.

At Simtech, the goal is to inspire future generations of pilots to aim even higher, into space flights.

Simtech Aviation is a flight simulator located in New York City. Along with other airline pilots and flight instructors, it provides flight instruction to future aviators as they progress from kids to achieving their dream to become pilots.

Simtech Aviation is part of JD Aero Services, LLC.
