T20 World Cup: ‘Dangerous’ Rohit Sharma will be a key player for Virat Kohli and India, says Nathan Hauritz | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Former Australian cricketer Nathan Hauritz has picked Indian opener Rohit Sharma as a player who can do wonders for Team India and captain Virat Kohli in the 2021 ICC World T20, starting October 17 in UAE and Oman.
“Rohit (Sharma) is definitely going to be a key guy for Virat. He will be the key for Virat. He is very dangerous. Of course, Virat as well. He (Rohit) can execute plans under pressure. He has the ability to absorb pressure and tackle the pressure situations,” Hauritz told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.
Under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s leadership, India had won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 and the Men in Blue, in their new jerseys, will aim to win their second title under Kohli, who is chasing his maiden senior ICC trophy as captain. India had defeated Pakistan in the 2007 summit clash.

In the 2014 edition, India had reached the final, under Dhoni’s captaincy, but lost to Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final in Dhaka.
Kohli has already announced that he will be giving up T20I captaincy after this edition of the T20 World Cup and the Indian captain would want to sign off the tournament by winning the coveted silverware.
Hauritz, who played 17 Tests, 58 ODIs, and 3 T20Is from 2004 to 2011 for Australia feels Virat has the chance to end his senior ICC trophy jinx at the World Cup this time.

“Yes definitely. Virat has been an amazing leader. We’ve seen it from all around the world.”
“It’s not the leader’s responsibility to just look after the team on a battlefield, he’s the person responsible for moving the troops and making decisions. At the same time, he’s responsible for the other 10 cricketers and what they’re doing, whether they’re batting, bowling or fielding. It’s his job to get the best out of them on the day. There are plenty of opportunities for Virat to get an ICC trophy in his cabinet,” Hauritz said.
India will open their ICC World T20 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the Super-12 stage.
