Nintendo has once again put playfulness at heart of gaming with the release of “Tears of the Kingdom”, the latest instalment in its beloved Zelda franchise, to rapturous critical acclaim.
On this week’s Tech 24, we discuss the secret behind the success of “Tears of the Kingdom” and its predecessor “Breath of the Wild”: games are at their best when the player is encouraged to use their imagination and sense of creativity.
That philosophy has been a cornerstone of the Zelda franchise since 1986, and of Nintendo’s wider commitment to keeping the fun in gaming, although this is not always perfectly executed.
Whether the hype around “Tears of the Kingdom” will be enough to drive sales of the Switch console and turn around Nintendo’s flagging fortunes is another question.
