This new WhatsApp feature will protect users from abusive, spam messages – Times of India

NEW DELHI: WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature which will give respite to its users from abusive and spam messages. This upcoming feature will be an extension to the existing report option functionality. To recall, the report option on WhatsApp enables users to report individuals and businesses on the basis of the entire chat.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp build, WhatsApp beta versions 2.21.190.12 and 2.21.190.11 for iOS have carried the option of allowing users to report specific messages on the platform. According to WABetaInfo, this new feature will enable the app to forward only the reported message to WhatsApp and also notify the sender about the report.

WABetaInfo further suggests that the new reporting process will be different from the one already existing in the app. Presently, five most recent messages are forwarded to WhatsApp when a user reports another user or business on the basis of their chat.
The feature will be made available on both Android and iOS. As per the screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, the beta users will notice a new Report option when they tap and hold a specific message. The option will appear alongside the Star, Reply, Forward, Copy and Delete options.
On the other hand, the same feature was also spotted on the Android beta version 2.21.20.1.
The Android users can access the new report feature by selecting a particular message and then tapping on the three dot menu icon placed on the top right corner of the screen.
WhatsApp voice message transcription feature
Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp is developing a new voice transcription feature. This new WhatsApp feature will enable users to transcribe the contents of a voice message. Presently, the voice message transcription feature is only spotted for the iOS build of the app. WABetaInfo also suggests that the voice data will not be shared with Facebook as these messages will be transcribed by Apple.
