TTD’s ayurvedic college will produce Anandaiah’s Covid-19 medicine after govt approvals: Govt Whip – Times of India

TIRUPATI: Government whip and Chandragiri legislator Dr Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy has announced plans to get the Anandaiah drug tested for efficacy in a private laboratory.

The ingredients used in the drug will be tested in Tirupati-based Sugen Life Sciences, a laboratory approved by the central government.

Accompanied by Anandaiah’s disciples and Ayurvedic experts, Mr. Bhaskar Reddy visited the laboratory on Wednesday to inspect the facilities available at the lab and also to discuss the process to be undertaken to get the product tested for efficacy.

After retrospective study of the patients who have been administered the drug in Krishnapatnam, the scientists will undertake toxic studies, in-vitro studies and finally take up with clinical study.

Speaking to the media later, Mr. Reddy said the drug would be administered on rabbits and mice to test its toxicity and similar tests later for its efficacy.

Expressing confidence that the state government would announce a positive stand on the drug soon, he, as a member of the TTD, expressed willingness to take up large scale production of the drug once the final nod is secured. He also indicated the need to explore the Seshachalam forests, replete with rare herbs and medicinal plants, for possible alternatives.

Quoting scientists at the lab, he said the report on the drug’s efficacy would be made available in twenty days, unlike the three months required for study of an allopathic medicine.
