United Airlines has signed an agreement with sustainable aviation fuel manufacturer Neste to purchase over the next three years up to 52.5 million gallons of SAF for United flights at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, the carrier announced Tuesday. The carrier claims to be the first U.S. airline to sign an agreement for overseas SAF.
Neste is expected to provide United with 2.5 million gallons of SAF in Amsterdam the first year. United also will have the right to purchase up to 20 million gallons in the second year and up to 30 million gallons in the third year at Amsterdam or other locations where Neste can supply the fuel as it increases its SAF production, according to the carrier.
