Watch: Mohammed Siraj’s scorcher cleans up Kusal Mendis for duck in India-Sri Lanka first ODI | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: After Virat Kohli’s breathtaking century against Sri Lanka in the first ODI, paceman Mohammed Siraj gave India a perfect start by picking up two quick wickets inside six overs of the Lankan innings in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Chasing 374, Sri Lanka had a dismal start when they lost Avishka Fernando in the fourth over of the innings. Fernando stood tall and tried to play across the line, but ended up getting a leading edge towards mid-off where Hardik Pandya completed an easy catch.
But the wicket of the day came up an over later when Siraj cleaned up Kusal Mendis for a duck. The ball was well pitched up and was not meant to be driven as it came back in sharply to go through the gates only to leave Mendis stunned.

Earlier, batting maestro Kohli continued his good run with the bat and started the new year with a sensational hundred. Kohli, who powered India to 373/7, raced to his 45th ODI hundred in just 80 balls with the help of a six and 10 fours.

It was the second successive ODI hundred for Kohli after ending the year 2022 with a superb 113 off 91 balls against Bangladesh at Chattogram on December 10. And Tuesday’s hundred took his combined international tally to 73.
