HIGHLIGHTS

  • Shubman Gill held one end in the rain marred game
  • This could have been Gill’s first ever century in ODI cricket
  • India finished their innings after 36 overs

India opener Shubman Gill got stranded at 98* as India’s innings got cut short by rain at the Port of Spain on Wednesday evening in Trinidad.

The 22-year-old Gill, who had not hit a century in ODI cricket was in a rich vein of form in the series. He made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2019, and could have brought up his hundred in just his 6th ODI match, against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval. The right hander survived a DRS call at 97, after Windies appealed for a caught behind. It turned out that the ball had clipped the pad and not the bat of the right hander. Soon after the game was stopped for the third time as it started raining and the Indian innings could not resume. The game, at the mid innings was cut short to 35 overs, with West Indies needing 257 runs off it. India on the other hand, had finished with 225/3 in 36 overs.
