What are the two options suggested by CBSE for Class 12 boards – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday suggested two options for conducting the Class 12 board examinations amid the Covid pandemic during a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Union defence minister Rajnath Singh.

Most states are in favour of holding the board examinations and will explore the options suggested by the CBSE. The Centre has said that the final decision on the matter will be taken soon.

Here are the details of the options presented by the CBSE:

Congratulations!

You have successfully cast your vote

Option A: Regular exams for major subjects at notified centres

* Exams to be conducted in designated exam centres, which are limited

* Exams of only major subjects to be held (19 subjects)
* For minor subjects, assessment to be on basis of performance in major subjects

* This option requires one month of pre-exam activities and two months for the conduct of exams and declaration of results, and another 30 days for compartment exams

* This can be done if 3 months of time period is clearly and safely available to the board

* August could be a likely month for holding these exams, and the whole process is likely to go on till the end of September

* In case the above 3-month window is not available and the situation is not conducive for safe conduct of exams, then this option may not be feasible
* Exam dates: August 1 to August 20

* Result: September 20, 2021

Option B: Shorter duration exams at school itself

* The examinations will be conducted in the same schools where the students are enrolled

* The examination will be of short duration, i.e of 90 minutes instead of 180 minutes

* Will be conducted only for 19 major subjects

* The students have to appear in one language & three elective subjects only

* Based on their performance in these the results of 5th and 6th subjects will be assessed

* The questions will be of multiple option types. These will be based on the existing pattern of objective and very short answer type questions

* The exams will be conducted two times (July 15 to August 1 and August 5 to August 26)

* Wherever the conditions are conducive, examinations could commence from a suitable date. In the remaining locations the exams will start after a fortnight of the first phase.

* As the question papers will be delivered in electronic format to the centres, these exams do not need elaborate logistics and can be deployed and conducted in a flexible and responsive manner

* If a student fails to appear due to Covid related issue, she/ she will get another opportunity
