whatsapp feature: WhatsApp could restrict forwarding messages further, here’s how – Times of India

WhatsApp had put a limit to forwarding messages to chats in 2019 and restricted it to five chats at once. The decision was taken to combat the spread of fake news and rumours on the platform, with the messaging service being used to transmit such information in the blink of an eye. Now, the instant messaging app could be considering curtailing forwarding messages to others further. As per a report by WABetaInfo, the chat platform is looking to restrict forwarding of all the messages to just one group chat.
As per the report, the feature can be seen in v2.22.7.2 of WhatsApp beta for Android and whenever users try to forward a message to more than one WhatsApp groups, they see this text: “Forwarded messages can only be sent to one group chat”.

“If you need to forward this message to more than one group chat, you need to select the message and forward it again. Note that the new limitation takes effect even when the message is forwarded once, so it’s different from the previous limitation.”, said the report.
Back when WhatsApp put a five chats limit to the forwarded message, it was and is still possible to send the same message to a fresh set of five contacts or groups. If the message gets shared more than four times, WhatsApp marks it as ‘frequently forwarded’. Now, the Facebook-owned platform could be looking to make spreading misinformation and rumours more difficult on the platform, which happens to be one of the most widely-used ones.
