WhatsApp starts testing iOS-like bottom navigation bar on Android – Times of India

WhatsApp recently started testing the new iOS version-like bottom navigation ribbon for Android with select beta testers. It appears that the instant messaging platform is expanding the availability of the new navigation bar to more beta users. WABetaInfo has reported that the bottom navigation bar has started appearing to select beta users from across the globe and the platform is expected to expand it to more users in coming months.
WhatsApp to get a new bottom navigation bar soon
If you’ve ever used the iOS version of WhatsApp, then you must have noticed that the app has a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen for faster and easier navigation between the different sections of the app. The company is now redesigning the Android version of the app with a similar bottom navigation bar.
As per the screenshot shared, the tweaked interface with bottom navigation bar will feature different tabs at the bottom of the screen which will include Chat, Communities, Calls and Status. Tapping on the tabs will navigate you to that particular tab.
Do note that the feature is currently in beta testing and available only to select beta testers only. So, if the feature isn’t available for you despite you being a beta tester, then it may take a while until WhatsApp expands this feature to more beta users.
Also, there’s no information available on when we can expect the feature to roll out in the official WhatsApp build.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp has recently started rolling out a new side-by-side feature for tablet devices which allows users to toggle between the regular user interface of a split interface on tablet devices. The feature is also in beta right now and is expected to roll out with future WhatsApp updates.
