WhatsApp web users getting this privacy feature – Times of India

Earlier this month, WhatsApp rolled out a new privacy feature that grants more control to the users. The Facebook-owned platform released a feature called “My Contacts Except”. As of now, the feature was only available for WhatsApp beta on Android devices but as per a latest report by WABetaInfo, the company has started to roll out the feature to other users as well. The report reveals that with the update version 2.2146.5, the feature is now available for web and desktop users as well.
What is WhatsApp’s “My Contacts Except” feature?
The feature on the instant-messaging app allows users to control who can see their Last seen, status, profile photo and About description on WhatsApp. The feature can be accessed under the privacy settings. The app already had options like Everyone, My Contacts and Nobody. With the new feature, users can select the contacts who they don’t wish to share information like last seen, profile photo, status and About description with. The contacts that are not selected by the user will not be able to see any new changes and information.
Recently, WhatsApp also rolled out a new shortcut for Android users. The new shortcut allows users to quickly start a video call while viewing status updates shared by any other user. To access the shortcut, you can tap on the three dots icon at the top right corner of the screen while viewing a status update and in the menu you can spot a “Video call” option.
The platform earlier added a shortcut that allows users to start a voice call with other WhatsApp contacts in the same section. Users who still have the 2.21.23 beta update can get the voice call shortcut. The shortcuts are not yet available on the stable version of the app for Android and iOS platforms.
