WhatsApp will start to automatically mute large group chats | Digit

Meta-owned WhatsApp has been releasing and developing new features recently. As of now, one new feature is being tested that will allow users to reduce the notification on their devices. Since WhatsApp has pushed out a new feature that automatically mutes large group chat notifications. Let’s check out this feature in detail!

How does this work?

This feature automatically mutes notifications from large groups with multiple members. This is mainly to reduce their notifications and improve their experience according to the company when it comes to the notifications that they receive from WhatsApp. Usually, an average active user receives up to 500+ messages in a day from an active group with max participants.

With the increase of max group members to 1024, this feature can be considered very useful, as once new members get added to a large group, there can be a lot of clutter in the notifications.

Users have started sharing screenshots where a group with over 256 participants was automatically muted and the notification said, “This group has over 256 participants and was automatically muted to help reduce notifications.”

How do you use this feature?

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta version 2.22.23.9 automatically mutes groups with over 256 participants. The app will now automatically mute groups after the groups adds the 257th participant as it will then be considered a “Large group”. So in order to use this feature, users will need to update to the Beta version or wait for the stable rollout of this feature.
