WI vs IND, 2nd Test Day 5 Weather report: Will rain prevent India from completing 2-0 series sweep?

By India Today Sports Desk: The second Test between West Indies and India at Port of Spain, Trinidad, has been a thrilling encounter so far. As we head into the final day, the weather could play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the match.

On the fourth day, the West Indies team started in a promising position at 229 for 5. However, their hopes of making a significant dent in India’s first innings total of 438 were dashed as they lost their last five wickets for just 26 runs. Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj was the star of the morning, taking four wickets to complete a five-wicket haul in the innings.

India, with a lead of 183, aimed to score quickly to set up a declaration. Openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a brisk 98-run partnership in just 12 overs. However, rain interrupted play, causing an early lunch and a brief pause in the afternoon due to a heavy downpour. Despite the weather disruptions, India managed to score at an impressive rate, reaching 181 for 2 in 24 overs. The declaration came shortly after Ishan Kishan scored his maiden Test half-century, setting West Indies a challenging victory target of 365.

In response, West Indies ended the day at 76 for 2, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Jermaine Blackwood at the crease. They will resume on the final day needing another 289 runs for victory.

The weather has already played a significant role in this Test. On the fourth day, showers ate into India’s time at the crease, prompting captain Rohit Sharma to declare earlier than he might have otherwise. The drainage at Queen’s Park Oval is good, but persistent rain could still cause delays or even force an early end to the match.

Despite the weather concerns, all results are still possible on the final day. India are the favorites, having already taken two West Indian wickets on the fourth day.
