WI vs IND: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma complement each other, says Dinesh Karthik

By India Today Sports Desk: India wicket-keeping batter Dinesh Karthik has said that the openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal complement each other really well. India’s opening duo registered two back-to-back 100-run stands in the ongoing Test series against the West Indies.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik said Rohit and Jaiswal have different styles and complement each other well. Rohit and Jaiswal stitched a 139-run stand against the West Indies on Day 1 of the second Test of the two-match series.

“It definitely looks like something that is going to be really fruitful for Team India. The way they bat is very different from each other. They complement each other,” said Karthik.

He went on to say that India’s opening duo deserves credit for their approach on Day 1 despite the opposition bowling attack not being at par with Australia or England. Rohit and Jaiswal became the sixth Indian opening pair to register consecutive 100-run stands.

“You can say that the West Indies bowling pedigree (isn’t at par with) the likes of Australia or England. I don’t think we can hide from that fact. But what you need to give them credit for is the way they have approached it,” Karthik added.

Karthik was also shocked to see the West Indies opting to bowl first on a flat wicket in Port of Spain. India posted 288 for 4 at the end of Day 1 in the second Tes of the series.

“West Indies won the toss, and what was surprising was the decision that they chose. They chose to bowl first on what looked like a really flat pitch. Why I said the decision was surprising was because the Indian openers, as usual, got off to a lovely start,” said Karthik.

India will be looking to clean-sweep the Windies, having won the first match of the series by an innings and 141 runs in Dominica.
