Wimbledon 2023 Day 10 Updates
Aryna Sabalenka defeated Madison Keys 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 27 minutes. Back in 2021, the Belarusian star advanced to the semis at SW19 before losing to Karolina Pliskova. The World No.2 will now be looking to make amends when she faces Ons Jabeur in the semis.
As far as Jabeur is concerned, she took down defending champion Elena Rybakina after rallying back from a set down. The Tunisian player won the match 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 53 minutes. Jabeur also avenged her defeat in the final of the women’s singles at Wimbledon back in 2022.
ALCARAZ THUMPS RUNE
In the men’s singles, World No.3 Daniil Medvedev defeated Christopher Eubanks after once finding himself in a hole. Medvedev won the match 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in two hours and 58 minutes.
Eubanks produced 74 winners, 22 more than Medvedev. But he made 55 unforced errors and that turned out to be the deciding factor in the context of the game.
“After [the] first set, for sure, I didn’t want to go five. When I lost the third, I wanted to go five because I had no other choice,” Medvedev was quoted as saying after the match.
“But yeah, there was a moment in the match where I completely lost the game itself and he played well. I started to sink; I started to do a lot of mistakes, not serving well enough,” Medvedev added.
Medvedev will next be facing World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz, who will be making his Wimbledon semis debut. Alcaraz defeated young sensation Holger Rune 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 21 minutes.
On Saturday, Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina will face Marketa Vondrousova before Jabeur and Sabalenka play on Centre Court.
