  • India and New Zealand will clash against each other in the WTC final from June 18

We are just 11 days away from the final of inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) and fans can’t stay calm. The fan following of Indian cricket team is not unknown to anyone. The Asian giants get massive support in any part of the world.

Southampton’s Ageas Bowl, is also expected to witness a lot of Indian fans from June 18. Around 4,000 fans are expected to get lucky and watch the match from the beautiful stadium, however, Kiwis getting outshone and outnumbered in the stands is a certainty.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is aware of it. He is very much familiar with the positive atmosphere Team India brings with them. The talismanic batsman is also sure that fans will be excited to witness a high-profile sporting event after spending months in Covid-19 lockdown and restrictions.

“Every country is a bit different with their timelines and how they have dealt with different things. In a large country like England, you can see that the public is able to see the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak and I am sure they will be very enthusiastic to get to sporting events. So hopefully it brings a pretty cool atmosphere. And whenever you play India, there is a good atmosphere, and it is usually geared towards them, but it is pretty good fun,” Williamson told ICC.

Facing England before WTC final is nice to be honest

Further, Williamson conceded that playing against England in a 2-Test series and facing the Dukes ball which will be used during the WTC final, was a good chance for his team to acclimatise in the English conditions. He added that New Zealand are yet to finalise their eleven for the summit clash.

“I do not know the team yet, let us see what the conditions are. What we have seen so far is pretty much rain, every day. It is nice to be outside to be honest, just getting some experience facing the duke in different conditions,” Williamson said.

The first Test between England and New Zealand ended in a draw on Sunday. Day three of the Test was washed out entirely because of rain.
