Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi today announced that the company will soon be launching a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 powered smartphone. However, he did not divulge further details but the smartphone is expected to be the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. According to Jun’s post, it will be launching in July. He further tipped that the upcoming smartphone would be a major upgrade compared to its predecessor.
In a post on Weibo, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun said that Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is not a half-generational upgrade but it brings a major leap in terms of performance and efficiency. He further says that the chipset has exceptional power efficiency, and brings double the power and power efficiency as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
Qualcomm ditched Samsung for TSMC to fabricate the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm process node which is said to offer much better performance and power efficiency than Samsung’s 4nm process.

As previously mentioned, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. Further, it would come with Leica tuned camera setup which is rumoured to include Sony’s new 50MP IMX989 sensor. Also, the smartphone would carry Leica’s iconic red logo.
