HP and MIT Solve team up to launch second annual youth innovation challenge
(Broadry) — Can you change the world? MIT Solve has launched its second annual Solv[ED] Youth Innovation Challenge, supported by HP, and is looking for the next generation climate innovators. Prizes up to $100,000 are up for grabs to fund sustainability-based youth-led solutions to address climate change.
Last year, Elizabeth Nyamwange won the “Girls Save the World” innovation challenge. She used the prize to further develop her concept for a low-cost fingerprint scanner powered by solar technology. The scanner was designed to provide women in developing countries a digital identity.

In a statement, Nyamwange expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to join the program, “It’s essential that we build innovations to solve complex challenges like climate change or inequality, so I’m grateful for the support of organizations like HP and MIT that recognize the imperative of backing young people and their ideas.”
HP, a company committed to innovation and climate action, has dedicated a $100,000 prize pool to support the “Create What’s Next” grants for the 2023 program. This year’s challenge encourages young innovators to focus on solutions based around the reduction, reuse and recycling of plastics and packaging.
